We are taking a year off.  Due to road construction and race organizer conflicts, the ReeseStrong Foundation will not hold the ReeseStrong 5K in 2018.  Once the Atlee extension construction is complete, we will start planning the 2019 ReeseStrong 5K.

About the Event 



Join us for the 9th Annual ReeseStrong 5K and Gold Ribbon Kid's Run on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 8:30 AM.  Once again, we are racing to fight childhood cancer that has interrupted the lives of families in our community.  This race allows us to bring awareness to these children's fight, educate about childhood cancer, and help ease the burden on our friends who are raising their children in and out of the hospital.  Stay for the family friendly festival following the 5k.

About the 5K Course

The course is set in the neighborhoods of Rutland and Cool Spring Forest off Route 301 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. It will start and end in the Rutland Center. Timing is provided by Commonwealth Timing, and 5k runners will be chipped timed.  The First 500 5K finishers will receive medals.


ReeseStrong 5K Youth Training Team - Begins July 30 

If your child is training to complete a 5K for the first time, trying to set a 5K PR, or getting in shape for fall sports, then join us for the ReeseStrong 5K training program.  This structured 7 week program will help youth ages 7 to 15 prepare for the September 16th ReeseStrong 5K.  Group training sessions will begin on Sunday, July 30.  Participants will be grouped by age and ability level from beginner to advanced.

Gold Ribbon Kid’s Run   

The Gold Ribbon Kid’s Run will take place in the Rutland Commons shopping center.  There will be two kid’s runs. 

Children ages 5 and under will run ¼ mile. 

Children ages 6 – 12 will run ½ mile. 

All children who sign up for the Gold Ribbon Kid’s Run can also participate in the ReeseStrong 5K run/walk at no additional cost.

Festival Information (9 AM - 11:30 AM)

After the run, join us for the ReeseStrong 5K festival.  This family friendly festival features bounceables, caricuture artists, a balloon clown, face painters, and vendors.   Food for the festival will be provided by Giovannis Pizza, Brunettis Express, TGI Fridays, Sheets, Bojangles, and Kroger.


T-Shirt Information

All participants who register for the race by Thursday, August 18th, will be guaranteed a souvenir T-shirt. After August 18th, T-shirts and t-shirt sizes and not guarenteed.

 While individual participation is welcome, more impact can be made by forming teams.  Challenge your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to join your team today! Participants can register under their team names when registering.  The largest three teams will be recognized at the event.

Become a ReeseStrong 5K Fundraiser

Support the ReeseStrong Foundation by becoming a fundraiser for the 2017 ReeseStrong 5K and Gold Ribbon Kid's Run.  After setting up your fundraising page, e-mail your friends and family and ask them to support your efforts as you prepare for the race.  You can fundraise as an individual or fundraise as a team.



Saxon is the 2016 prize sponsor.  The top 3 male and female 5K finishers will receive a $100 gift card to Saxon.  Age group winners (12 and Under, 13 - 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over and 1st place male and female finishers of the Gold Ribbon Kid's Run will receive $25 gift cards to Saxon.


Directions to the Event

The event will start and finish at the Atlee Station YMCA at 8017 Rutland Center Blvd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.  Parking will be available in the Kroger parking lot.  The address of Kroger is 9351 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23116.  Kroger is in the Rutland Commons shopping center.  Kroger is located 1.3 miles north of interstate 295 at the intersection of Atlee Road and Chamberlayne Rd (Rt 301).

Packet Pick-up

Race Packets will be distributed at the Atlee Station YMCA on Friday, September 15 from 5 pm – 7:30 pm and  Saturday, September 16 from 7 am – 8 am.  The address of the Atlee Station YMCA is 8017 Rutland Center Blvd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. 


The ReeseStrong Raffle  

Raffle tickets for various prizes including gift cards, merchandise, and services can be purchased during packet pick-up and on Raceday until 10 am. (1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20).


Parking Information

Please follow arrows, cones and course marshal directions when arriving for the event.  Parking will be available in the Rutland Commons Shopping Center in front of Kroger off Route 301 and Atlee Road, on a first come first serve basis.  Besides Rutland Commons, parking is also permitted at Domonion Orthodontics on Chamberlayne Road and at the Rutland House on Combs Drive.

Volunteers for the Event are Needed

Interested in Volunteering during the event? This event would not be a success without our volunteers.  Duties include passing out water at waterstops, serve as course marshals, assist with the Gold Ribbon Kid's Run, pass out food at the end of the 5K, etc.  And yes, you can volunteer and participate in the ReeseStrong 5K.  Students can also receive community service credit for volunteering.
